I met up with a former and now current uFitter, Mina today and discussed all things uFit past, present and future.
It’s crazy how so many of you still have that old uFit feeling deep inside, knowing how it felt to be apart of the old uFit – something special and something I’ll cherish forever.
One of the questions I get asked most is…‘I haven’t exercised in a while – am I going to die? I’m really unfit…’
And I get it, it’s lockdown and I myself haven’t been so regimented with my exercise as I used to previously. But here’s the thing, we don’t want the fittest of the fittest.
If your goal is to run a super-speed marathon or step on stage because you’re a bodybuilder, you’re not for us. What we are instead is a home, an identity and a community where we come together to share wins as well as losses.
Fitness isn’t always an upward trajectory and we totally get it. We never ask you to be perfect. That’s life. Nothing is. And the sooner you realise you can’t be, the greater results you’re going to get.
Here’s how we combat the ‘am I too unfit to start?’ conundrum
1: You start with a chat
That means we discuss what you want and lay out a plan to get there. We’ll discuss your previous exercise history, injuries and future objectives and then go away and let you know what we feel is best for you moving forward. That means we match your current ability with your future objectives in a safe and progressive way.
2: You’ll complete a Pre Season
A pre season is our chance to meet each other and go on a date without trying to marry you on Day 1.
That means we don’t scare you by chucking you in at the deep end to see if you sink or swim. We’ll go through our processes, have an interactive Q&A about health, what it means and go through a mobility warm up followed by 3 ‘mini’ workouts of each different team training workout you’ll do when you come into the sessions.
Based off of this pre season and the chat above we’ll get back to you in the next day about what we feel would be best for you moving forward. If your goal is to lose 15lbs but haven’t done much over lockdown and you’re a bit ‘stiff’ we might say to look out for the ‘density’ or ‘metabolic interval’ type of Team Training workouts along with a mobility workout.
And each 6 weeks we’ll review and discuss whether you can ramp it up or stay where you are.
Of course you don’t have to listen to our advice, but this is our way of letting you know what we feel would work best for you with our combined 40 years experience of coaching.
You’ve probably been to bootcamps and coaches that just chuck you in to workouts and get you squatting and doing burpees from day 1. We’re a little different. We care about you and your longevity so we want to know each other first, and see if there’s anything we can work on together to keep you mobile and active for years to come.
3: We’ll adapt
Seriously. If you have different issues, we’ll notice and adapt your workout accordingly. And if we don’t, just whisper in our ear and we’ll change the exercise to something that is a little more accommodating.
This should be sorted from the pre season and another reason as to why we start there. Our coaches will chat in the week and during our meetings and come up with a plan that suits you.
And with that, everyone wins
